My Aunt

Has this ever happened to you? You’re in your prayer time and you find yourself saying something that you just would never have said. I concluded that it must have been the Holy Spirit putting that into my heart. The words were, “Father if someone from my family comes to the Lord this week, I’ll take that as assurance from you that all of my family will be saved.”

My aunt had just lost her daughter and I felt so bad for her. This was the second daughter she lost. One day after praying, I felt a nudge to go see her. So I called and asked if I could come visit and she said “oh yes!” We set the date for Thursday.

On Thursday I went to her house, but there was a truck in her driveway. She was elderly and I wondered if she had forgotten I was coming today. I almost turned around and went home. I didn’t want to interrupt her if she had company. But no, my innards told me to at least knock on the door. So I did. And she came, and warmly invited me in. As we moved toward the living room, I noticed her husband in the dining room with an electrician, installing a ceiling light.

We sat down and began chit chatting, as you do at first. I told her how grieved I was for the loss of her daughter. We talked awhile about her daughter and it was quite emotional though we both kept our composure. And then …I just don’t know how it began, something either she or I said, and it led to ministering to her. I spoke to her about the Lord, about salvation. I don’t even remember the words I used, but I knew it wasn’t me, I was very aware that it was the Lord wooing her. Finally, I asked her if she wanted to give her life to the Lord, and to my surprise, she shook her head yes, yes! I led her in a prayer of salvation and she was one in heart with me as I prayed. Then I suggested to her that she not touch anything occult or “new age,” because in our family there was a lot of that. She accepted, and assured me she wouldn’t.

The truck
After I returned home and was praising the Lord for what he had done, the scene unfolded more to me. He showed me that that truck in the driveway was placed there because he wanted me to be alone with my aunt. Had her husband not been helping the electrician in the dining room, he would have been sitting with us and this never would have happened.

At that, I just started praising God with all my heart, as I realized how HE had set this all up.

And then…

While I was praising him, what came blazing into my mind? Those words I had said to him just days before. “Father if someone from my family comes to the Lord this week, I’ll take that as assurance from you that all of my family will be saved.” Even now as I write this, the chills are running through me. I had no idea, I had not connected those dots. Oh how HE does all things well.
